Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking an Advisory Teacher (Cognition and Learning) to support schools and families, removing barriers to learning and improving pupil outcomes. You will use your expertise to provide assessment, guidance and training across educational settings.

You will join a collaborative team with a strong emphasis on early identification, partnership work, safeguarding and high-quality reporting, delivering targeted interventions and professional development.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status and appropriate teaching qualifications.
• Accredited Test User Qualification (Level B) or equivalent.
• Experience supporting children and young people with SEND including assessment and progress reviews.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation and inclusive practice.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with schools, families and partners.
• Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to manage a varied workload.
• Experience delivering training and working with multiagency teams.
• Proficient ICT use for learning, recording and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Act as a SEND specialist providing expert advice, assessment and training to educational settings.
• Support and challenge schools to develop outstanding inclusive practice for pupils with SEND.
• Identify barriers to learning and provide strategies with clear feedback and reports.
• Build positive relationships with children and young people to raise aspirations and outcomes.
• Collaborate with parents, carers and professionals to support wellbeing and progress.
• Promote evidence-based interventions to improve curriculum access and attainment.
• Deliver high-quality training and professional development across settings.
• Contribute specialist advice to EHCPs and reviews to ensure appropriate support.
• Maintain high professional standards and safeguarding while developing expertise.
