Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking SEN Teaching Assistants to support children across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. Start ASAP with flexible full‑time or part‑time placements in mainstream primary schools.

You’ll provide 1:1 or small‑group support, help pupils engage with lessons, and assist with communication, social and emotional needs while building positive relationships with staff and pupils.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN.
  • Transferable experience from childcare, care work, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments.
  • Previous SEN experience is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with additional needs.
  • Work with small groups to support learning and development.
  • Help pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities.
  • Support children with communication, social and emotional needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils manage challenges.

Do you have experience supporting children with SEN, or a strong background working with children and young people?

We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to join a number of mainstream primary schools across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, with opportunities available to start immediately.

What will you be doing?

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping pupils feel confident, included and supported throughout their school day.

Depending on the individual pupil and school, your role could involve:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with additional needs
  • Working with small groups to support learning and development
  • Helping pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities
  • Supporting children with communication, social and emotional needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils manage challenges
  • Building trusting and supportive relationships with pupils
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and other school staff
  • Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment
Who are we looking for?

You could be an experienced Teaching Assistant, an SEN professional, or someone with transferable experience from childcare, care work, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments.

You'll ideally be:

  • Adaptable and able to think on your feet
  • Reliable and committed
  • Passionate about inclusive education

Previous SEN experience is beneficial, but it's not essential. What's most important is your attitude, commitment and ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
