Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant for a secondary school in Durham. You will support students with a range of special educational needs, assisting with academic and emotional development within a supportive school environment.

The role offers ongoing professional development, long-term opportunities, and a pathway to potential permanent employment. Paid weekly through PAYE with dedicated consultant support from Protocol Education.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN in education, care, youth work, or similar.
• Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
• Passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a wider school team.
• Proactive attitude and commitment to student development.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN.
• Support pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, and moderate learning difficulties.
• Assist students in managing emotions and behaviours, promoting a safe learning environment.
• Build positive relationships to encourage confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
• Work with teachers to adapt learning activities and provide targeted classroom support.
• Support students during lessons, breaktimes, and other school activities as required.
• Contribute to classroom organisation and behaviour management strategies.
