Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Encourage confidence, independence and positive social skills in pupils.
  • Support behaviour management per school policies and care plans.
  • Provide support during lessons, breaktimes and activities.
  • Prepare classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress and achievements.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents and external professionals.

SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Meldreth, Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire Border
Salary: £100-£115 per day (depending on experience)
Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Temporary to Permanent | Term Time Only
Start Date: 3 September 2026

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist education setting in Meldreth.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development. Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you’ll help create positive learning experiences that enable every pupil to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other learning needs.
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging, personalised learning activities.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive social skills.
  • Supporting behaviour management in line with school policies and individual care plans.
  • Providing support during lessons, breaktimes and educational activities.
  • Preparing classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Monitoring and recording pupils’ progress and achievements.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals to provide the best possible support for each pupil.

Essential Requirements
  • Experience working with children in an educational, care or other relevant setting.
  • Understanding of SEN, including Autism (ASD), ADHD and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or equivalent.
  • The right to work in the UK.
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience working within a specialist SEN setting.
