Job summary

Randstad Education in Leyland is seeking empathetic Level 2/3 Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs. Short-term November cover and long-term January contracts offer flexible options across primary schools in Leyland and South Ribble.

Responsibilities include 1:1 or small-group support, adapting tasks, implementing IEPs/EHCPs, and collaborating with teachers, SENCOs and parents. DBS required or willingness to process via Randstad.

Qualifications

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or substantial direct experience supporting children with SEN.
• Previous experience supporting primary-aged pupils with additional needs.
• High levels of patience, empathy, resilience and adaptability.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 or small-group assistance to pupils with diverse needs (including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language, or global developmental delay).
• Adapt classroom tasks, worksheets, and practical activities to make the curriculum accessible and engaging.
• Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Utilize positive reinforcement, sensory strategies, and proactive de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.
• Build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as a steady, encouraging role model.
• Collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs, visiting specialists, and parents to monitor developmental milestones and well-being.
• Assist during transitions, playground breaks, and structured activities to ensure a safe, inclusive learning space.
