Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Chelmsford. You will support pupils with a range of needs, working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to create an inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, personal care where needed, and maintaining safeguarding standards. DBS checks and references are required.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Experience with SEND preferred but not required.
  • Patient, caring, resilient and adaptable.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs (ASC, ADHD, Speech & Language, SEMH).
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to IPCs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils with personal care where required.
  • Help create a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Record and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our specialist school in Chelmsford. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of special educational needs, helping them to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals, you will play a vital role in creating a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual education plans.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils with personal care where required.
  • Help create a safe, positive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • Record and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
About You
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (preferred but not essential).
  • Is patient, caring, resilient, and adaptable.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenges.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
