Job summary

Remedy Education are recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to support a Year 11 student in an Alternative Provision setting in South East London.

The role requires experience with SEMH, careful behaviour management, and the ability to help the student with attention, working memory and communication needs on a day-to-day basis.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting students with SEMH is essential.
• Confident in managing challenging behaviour and dysregulation.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills required.

Responsibilities

• Support a Year 11 student on a 1:1 basis in an Alternative Provision setting.
• Help target SEMH goals, attention, and communication needs.
• Implement calm, consistent strategies and promote independence.
• Build trusting relationships with the student and maintain appropriate boundaries.

1:1 SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT - YEAR 11 STUDENT

South East London | Full-Time | £120-£130 per day

Remedy Education are currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Mentor to support a Year 11 male student within an Alternative Provision setting in South East London.

The student's primary need is SEMH, alongside difficulties with attention and concentration, working memory, receptive language, emotional regulation and social interaction.

We are looking for someone who is calm, confident and experienced in supporting secondary-aged students with additional needs and challenging behaviour.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience supporting students with SEMH
• Be confident managing challenging behaviour and dysregulation
• Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Be patient, calm and consistent in their approach
• Be able to build trust and develop positive relationships with young people
• Understand how to support students with attention, working memory and communication difficulties
• Be confident breaking learning into manageable steps and providing appropriate prompts
• Support emotional regulation and help prevent situations from escalating
• Be able to maintain clear boundaries without creating power struggles
• Encourage independence rather than creating reliance on 1:1 support
• Have a relational and respectful approach

This role would suit an experienced SEN TA, SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor or Youth Worker who is confident working with teenagers who may present with challenging behaviour.

Experience in Alternative Provision, SEMH schools, specialist settings or similar environments would be highly desirable.
