Job summary

Flourish Education is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant for a supportive primary school in Worcester. The role is 1:1 with a Year 1 pupil, full-time, starting asap until Christmas with potential extension. You will work with the class team to help the pupil access learning and feel settled in the classroom.

The ideal candidate has SEN TA experience, a calm, nurturing approach, and relevant Level 2/3 qualifications. DBS Update Service is desirable and two references are required.

Job description

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for the perfect role starting as soon as possible? Flourish Education is currently recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a lovely and supportive primary school in Worcester, working on a 1:1 basis with a Year 1 pupil who is a former Looked After Child. This is a full-time position, starting as soon as possible and running initially until Christmas, with the potential to extend for the right candidate. The role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who is confident providing consistent, nurturing 1:1 support and understands the importance of building positive relationships with pupils who may require additional emotional and educational support. You will be joining an experienced team that values collaboration, consistency, and high standards of learning and behaviour. This role is primarily classroom-based, providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to help the pupil access their learning, develop independence, and feel confident and settled within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities for this SEN Teaching Assistant role:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil within the classroom.
  • Support the pupil to access learning and participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and provide consistent support throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil's emotional wellbeing, confidence, and social development.
  • Encourage independence and positive engagement with learning.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to support the pupil's individual needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain high expectations.
To be successful as an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will need:
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, with experience supporting children with SEN.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support to primary-aged pupils.
  • Experience supporting children with social, emotional, or additional needs is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, nurturing, and consistent approach.
  • Confidence building positive relationships with pupils and supporting their emotional wellbeing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or issued within the last 12 months.
  • Two professional references that confirm relevant experience in a similar role.
