Coast and Vale Learning Trust is seeking an enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Education Needs, including those with ASD. You will work closely with SENDCo and class teachers to monitor progress and wellbeing, building positive relationships and promoting independence within the school day.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  • Assist with development and delivery of individual education plans and progress updates.
  • Support learning through differentiated activities inside/outside the classroom and cover short absences when needed.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress and barriers to learning.
  • Support behaviour management according to school policy and safety guidelines.
  • Communicate with parents under teacher direction and collaborate with colleagues and professionals.

Job description

We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic SEND TA with excellent interpersonal skills, who displays initiative, is a team player and, ideally, someone who has experience of working with ASD pupils. The role involves working with Special Education Needs pupils to support their learning and their overall growth and development.

Your duties will be to support allocated pupils through their school day and also liaise with the SENDCo and class teachers with regard to students' progress and wellbeing.

Main job functions and responsibilities. The post holder will:
Supporting pupils
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem and independence
  • Adapt communication style to respond to pupils according to their individual needs
  • Support pupils with their social, emotional and mental health needs, escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school's behaviour policy and guidelines on physical intervention
  • Assist with the development and delivery of individual education and support plans
Teaching and learning
  • Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities for individual or small groups of pupils including those with special educational needs (SEN), delivering activities inside or outside the classroom
  • Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning
  • With initial guidance and support, cover whole class activities during teacher's planning time and in short term planned absence
  • Through observations, provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil progress, attainment and barriers to learning
  • Support class teachers with managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school
  • Undertake any other relevant duties given by the class teacher
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers under the direction of teachers
  • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
