Job summary

Monarch Education is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Oldbury. The role supports pupils aged 4-16 with autism, MLD, speech and language needs, and sensory processing challenges.

You will implement individual plans, provide 1:1 and small-group support, and work with teachers and therapists to promote communication, independence and positive behaviours in a nurturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Applicants MUST hold one of the following to be considered: Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in childcare or education
  • A relevant degree related to education, psychology, SEN or child development

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEN needs including autism, learning difficulties and sensory needs
  • Follow individual support plans and EHCP targets
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support inside and outside the classroom
  • Use visual aids, communication tools and structured routines
  • Assist pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Support personal care routines where required (training provided)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Help create a safe, engaging, inclusive learning environment
  • Encourage independence, communication and social development

Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30am – 3:30pm)

What We’re Looking For
  • Level 2 or Level 3 childcare/education/TA qualification or a relevant education-related degree (essential)
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (school, care, residential, SEN or childcare settings all considered)
  • A calm, patient and resilient personality
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs throughout the school day
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of autism strategies, sensory needs or communication tools such as PECs or Makaton (desirable)
