Job summary

Vision for Education Ltd is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to support a SEND school in Northumberland on a temp-to-perm basis. The role involves 1:1 support for secondary pupils (KS3/KS4) with SEMH/ SEND needs, focusing on engagement, behaviour management and emotional regulation.

You will join an experienced team in a nurturing environment, benefitting from school-hours work without extra planning or marking outside of school time, with the potential for permanency.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
  • Experience supporting SEMH and/or SEND pupils.
  • Strong commitment to helping young people make progress.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Confidence in managing fast-paced and challenging situations.
  • DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils across the full curriculum.
  • Support engagement in learning and manage behaviour.
  • Promote emotional regulation and independence.

SEN Teaching Assistant - SEND School

Northumberland | Full Time
£14.24 P/H (pre-AWR, depending on experience and/or qualifications)
ASAP - Temp to perm

The School and Role

We are recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a special school on supply on temp to term basis.

You will be supporting secondary-aged pupils (Key Stages 3 and 4) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, all of whom have an EHCP. Classes are small, allowing you to build strong, consistent relationships and provide meaningful, targeted support.

This role will involve working on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils across the full curriculum, supporting engagement in learning, managing behaviour, and promoting emotional regulation.

Many students have experienced barriers to learning or previous disengagement from education. The school's ethos focuses on restoring confidence, building trust, and developing emotional regulation, independence, and pro-social behaviour, helping pupils prepare positively for adulthood and the workplace.

You will work as part of an experienced, supportive team in a structured and nurturing environment where staff wellbeing and collaboration are highly valued.
