Job summary

EMPOWERING LEARNING is seeking a caring SEN Teaching Assistant for roles in Durham. The position is full-time, with a daily rate of £95-£110, starting in September 2026.

The role involves supporting a student with SEN across primary and secondary settings, delivering tailored activities and aiding emotional regulation and communication. You will work 1:1 or in small groups, assisting the class teacher, and coordinating with SENCOs and external professionals to create an inclusive learning

Qualifications

  • Experience providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN (including ASD/ADHD/SEMH).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
  • Patience, empathy and proactive approach to supporting learners in primary and secondary settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN.
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, social skills, and communication.
  • Use interventions to meet individual needs and maintain an inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to support learning.

SEN Teaching Assistant - Durham

Location: Durham

Salary: £95-110 per day

Contract: Full time

Start Date: September 2026

Are you a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in a supportive school environment? Available to work full time, 5 days a week between the hours of #removed#? We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN TA to work with one of our schools to support a student with special educational needs (SEN) in Primary and Secondary settings across Durham

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities
  • Support students with emotional regulation, social skills, and communication
  • Use a range of strategies and interventions to meet individual needs
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based or other relevant settings)
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Relevant qualifications Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, or equivalent - desirable but not essential)
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
