Job summary

Empowering Learning is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant in Durham to support a student with special educational needs across primary and secondary settings. The role runs full time, five days a week, with hours 8:30 to 15:30, and a daily rate of 95–110 GBP. Start date September 2026.

Experience with SEN and DBS compliance are valued assets. You will work closely with teachers to deliver tailored activities, assist with emotional regulation and communication, and help create a positive learning

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based or other relevant settings).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN (ASD, ADHD, SEMH and other needs).
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, social skills, and communication.
  • Use a range of strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.

SEN Teaching Assistant - Durham

Location: Durham
Salary: 95-110 per day
Contract: Full time
Start Date: September 2026

Are you a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in a supportive school environment? Available to work full time, 5 days a week between the hours of 8.30-3.30? We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN TA to work with one of our schools to support a student with special educational needs (SEN) in Primary and Secondary settings across Durham

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities
  • Support students with emotional regulation, social skills, and communication
  • Use a range of strategies and interventions to meet individual needs
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
What We're Looking For:
  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based or other relevant settings)
    A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Relevant qualifications Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, or equivalent - desirable but not essential)
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
