Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a caring SEN Teaching Assistant for a welcoming primary school in South Manchester. You will work with pupils with special educational needs, supporting learning and development while collaborating with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.

SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School – South Manchester

Milk Education is currently recruiting for a caring, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in South Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them develop academically, socially and emotionally. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs. You will play an important role in helping pupils access their learning, build confidence and independence, and feel safe, valued and included within the classroom. This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant, as well as graduates or candidates with transferable experience from childcare, care, youth work, tutoring, sports coaching or similar environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs
• Support pupils to access and engage with lessons across the primary curriculum
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to understand and meet individual learning needs
• Support pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development
• Assist with targeted interventions and personalised learning activities
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
• Support children with a range of needs including communication, sensory, behavioural and learning difficulties
• Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual pupil needs
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and encourage their engagement in school life
• Assist with classroom preparation and the organisation of suitable learning resources
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals to provide consistent support

We're Looking For Someone Who

• Has experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs – desirable
• Has previous experience within a school, nursery, SEN setting, care environment, youth work, tutoring, coaching or similar – desirable
• Is caring, patient, understanding and compassionate
• Has a genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs
• Is confident building positive relationships with children and young people
• Can remain calm, patient and consistent when supporting challenging behaviour
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Is proactive, adaptable and willing to take initiative
• Works well as part of a wider school team
• Is committed to promoting inclusion and helping every child achieve their potential
• Holds a relevant qualification or degree – desirable, but not essential
