Job summary

Teach Now is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant in Harrow, London to support students with a range of needs, including Autism and speech/language challenges. The role is full-time, long-term and temporary, with September 2026 start.

You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to implement tailored learning plans and interventions. Applicants should have prior experience in UK primary or early years settings, a calm and nurturing approach, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with Autism, speech and language needs, SEND, SEMH and social communication difficulties.
  • Deliver targeted interventions and personalised learning activities.
  • Use visual supports, routines and positive behaviour strategies to engage pupils.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to support learning plans.
  • Help pupils gain confidence, communication skills and independence.
  • Provide personal care if required for complex needs roles.

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Harrow, London

Pay: £80–£105 per day

Job Type: Full Time | Long Term | Temporary

Start Date: September 2026

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

The Role
  • Support children with Autism (ASC), Speech & Language Needs, SEND, SEMH and social communication difficulties.
  • Deliver targeted interventions and personalised learning activities.
  • Use visual supports, structured routines and positive behaviour strategies to engage pupils.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to support individual learning plans.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, communication skills and independence.
  • Support personal care where required for one of the available positions (training provided).
Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND within a UK primary school or early years setting.
  • Experience with Autism, speech and language needs, social communication difficulties or SEMH.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Confidence supporting children individually and in small groups.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Willingness to provide personal care if required for the complex needs role.
