Responsibilities

• Providing individual and small-group support for students with ASD.
• Helping students understand lesson tasks and classroom instructions.
• Supporting communication, organisation and emotional regulation.
• Using visual timetables, structured routines and agreed support strategies.
• Encouraging independence and positive peer relationships.
• Supporting students during transitions and unstructured times.
• Recording progress and sharing relevant information with the SEN team.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will support students across KS3 and KS4 who have autism and associated communication, sensory or social needs. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to help students access lessons, manage transitions and become more independent. This role requires consistency, emotional awareness and the ability to build trust with young people while maintaining clear expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing individual and small-group support for students with ASD
• Helping students understand lesson tasks and classroom instructions
• Supporting communication, organisation and emotional regulation
• Using visual timetables, structured routines and agreed support strategies
