Job summary

Millbridge Primary Academy is seeking an outstanding Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a specialist team, supporting learning and welfare for targeted children with complex needs. You will deliver skilled one-to-one and small group support under the guidance of the teacher and SENDCo, organise learning activities, and help with integration and transitions while promoting wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience as a specialist teaching assistant in mainstream and/or special schools is desirable.
• Experience working with children with SEND and complex needs is essential.
• GCSE 4+ or equivalent including English and Maths, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant policies/codes of practice (including EHCPS, MSPs).
• Skills/experience in a relevant strand such as ELSA would be advantageous.
• Ability to share best practice with team and have excellent communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils, reinforcing teaching approaches.

We are looking to recruit an outstanding, experienced Specialist Teaching Assistant to work as part of a specialist team to support the learning and welfare of all targeted children.

As a specialist teaching assistant, you will be required to provide skilled support and intervention which increases pupil independence under the direction of the teacher and SENDCo.

This role includes organising and providing learning and educational activities, developing skills, supporting integration and transition, securing children’s physical and emotional well-being, whilst raising self-esteem and encouraging independence.

The role will involve delivering support for a range of different children with complex needs on a one to one and small group basis either in or out of the classroom. The post also involves working in partnership with parents/carers and families in order to build confidence and trust.

Essential Criteria

• This role includes organising and providing learning and educational activities, developing skills, supporting integration and transition, securing children’s physical and emotional well-being, whilst raising self-esteem and encouraging independence.
• The role will involve delivering support for children with complex needs on a one to one and small group basis either in or out of the classroom. The post also involves working in partnership with parents/carers and families in order to build confidence and trust.
• Under the guidance of class teachers and the SENDCo, provide one to one support to pupils or work with groups of pupils on pre-planned activities - aiming to reinforce the teachers approach and to support the learning to maximise pupil progress and achievements.
• To work alongside pastoral team-members to provide support to achieve positive outcomes and meet the needs of children, their families and school.
• To support colleagues in school, as appropriate, in developing effective support strategies, reduce barriers to learning and in the implementation of additional needs plans (or other plans) to meet pupil needs.
• To implement appropriate communication and access arrangements and to enable access to learning.
• To implement relevant and appropriate support processes under the direction of the teacher/ SENDCo.
• To use the latest materials, resources and approaches, under the direction of the teacher/SENDCo, in order to best meet the needs of children with a diagnosis and/or complex needs.
• To assist with the preparation and upkeep of specialist and/or support resources.
• To participate in and assist in the supervision of educational visits in conjunction with the teacher/SENDCo.
• Actively encourage the inclusion of all students to participate in the life and activities of the school and access the national curriculum to the best of their ability.
• Liaise with subject leads, teachers and pastoral staff to help the teacher meet the needs of all pupils.
• Ensure key staff and parents/carers are informed of progress and developments through regular feedback and updates.
• Ensure proactive/positive liaison with colleagues/teachers to help SEND pupils make good progress - building positive relationships.
• Contribute to reports (i.e. MSP/EHCP reviews) in relation to pupil progress and assist in the preparation of SEND plans.
• Contribute towards relevant referrals to outside agencies in order to access support for pupils.
• To provide information via CPOM’s of incidents or occurrences to teachers and senior staff.
• Support the needs of SEND pupils at lunch/playtimes.
• Undertake professional development to ensure own knowledge is up to date and to develop professionally.
• As part of your wider duties and responsibilities you are required to promote and actively support the school’s responsibilities towards Safeguarding. Safeguarding is about keeping people safe and protecting people from harm, neglect, abuse and injury. It is about creating safe places, being vigilant and doing something about any concerns you might have
