Job summary

Connex Education is recruiting dedicated SEN Support Teaching Assistants to work within mainstream primary schools across Weston-super-Mare from September 2026. Roles include day-to-day supply, short-term placements and longer-term opportunities, providing flexibility to suit experience and availability.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and staff to provide tailored support to pupils with diverse needs, helping them access the curriculum in an inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach is important.
  • Willingness to learn and develop SEN knowledge and skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures is important.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN throughout the school day.
  • Help pupils access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
  • Support children with a range of learning and additional needs.
  • Assist teachers with delivering engaging and accessible learning activities.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt approach to suit individual pupils and their specific needs.
  • Support pupils to work towards individual targets and EHCP outcomes where applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

SEN Support Teaching Assistant
Location: Weston-super-Mare
Salary: £93 – £110 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Start Date: September 2026

About the Role

Connex Education is recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Teaching Assistants to work within mainstream primary schools across Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding areas, from September 2026.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them overcome barriers to learning. Opportunities are available across day-to-day supply, short-term placements and longer-term roles, providing flexibility to suit your experience and availability.

As an SEN Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and other school staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs. This may include supporting children with communication difficulties, autism, ADHD, social and emotional needs, learning difficulties and other SEND requirements.

You will play an important role in helping pupils build confidence, develop independence and access their education in a positive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable but not essential
  • Experience in schools, childcare, youth work, care or support work is advantageous
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Confidence in adapting your approach to meet individual needs
  • A willingness to learn and develop your SEN knowledge and skills
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
