Job summary

Connex Education is seeking dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support individual pupils across Bridgwater and surrounding areas from September 2026. This role offers day-to-day, short-term and long-term opportunities, with pay of £93–£110 per day and weekly PAYE.

You’ll provide personalised 1:1 support to help a pupil access lessons, work on targets and build confidence and independence in the classroom, with ongoing guidance from an education consultant.

Qualifications

  • The right attitude, patience and ability to build a genuine connection with children are essential.
  • Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
  • Experience with SEND is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support to help a pupil access learning.
  • Help a pupil access lessons and engage with the curriculum.
  • Support children with needs such as autism, ADHD, communication difficulties and learning challenges.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence and positive behaviour.
  • Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.

Connex Education is looking for dedicated and compassionate SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistants to work in primary schools across Bridgwater and the surrounding areas from September 2026.

What will you be doing?

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide personalised support to help an individual pupil access learning and get the most out of their school day.

You could be:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Helping a pupil access lessons and engage with the curriculum
  • Supporting children with needs such as autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, learning difficulties and social & emotional needs
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive behaviour
  • Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
  • Breaking down tasks and adapting activities to make learning accessible
  • Encouraging pupils to participate in classroom and school activities
  • Supporting pupils to work towards their individual targets and EHCP outcomes
  • Building a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil you support
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team
  • Providing personal care where required, following appropriate training and school guidance
  • Helping create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment
What we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need previous SEN experience. The right attitude, patience and ability to build a genuine connection with children are just as important.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils
  • Calm and consistent in their approach
  • Able to adapt their support to suit an individual child
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and willing to learn
  • Interested in developing their SEN knowledge and career

Experience working with SEND, schools, childcare, youth work, care or support work is advantageous, but not essential.

You’ll also need:
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection
