Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Taunton primary/secondary school from September 2026. The role focuses on supporting pupils with SEN on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access learning and grow confidence within the classroom environment.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, during term time, with a pay rate of £14.25–£16.68 per hour. The position offers ongoing support from a Prospero Teaching consultant and opportunities for

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEN on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to access learning.
  • Deliver tailored interventions and learning activities under direction of teacher and SENCO.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Promote inclusion both academically and socially.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation as required.

SEN Teaching Assistant Required in Weston-super-Mare

Prospero Teaching is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Taunton that is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential within the classroom environment.

The Role
  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, and SEMH.
  • Delivering tailored interventions and learning activities under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Promoting inclusion and supporting pupils both academically and socially.
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Assisting with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies where required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • Experience within education, care, youth work, or support work backgrounds will be considered.
