Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking dedicated SEN Support Assistants to work 1:1 with children in KS1 within mainstream primary schools in Leeds and surrounding areas. These roles are on-site, full-time, term-time only, starting September 2026.

You will provide nurturing, structured support to KS1 pupils, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and build confidence. You’ll collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams to meet each child’s needs throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in KS1.
• Patience, empathy and a calm, supportive approach.
• Ability to work effectively in a team with teachers and SEN staff.

Responsibilities

SEN Support Assistant

Mainstream Primary School (KS1)

Location: Leeds & surrounding areas. Contract: Full-time, term-time only. Start: September 2026

We are seeking dedicated SEN Support Assistants to work 1:1 with children in KS1 within mainstream primary schools. These roles are based in on‑site SEN provisions, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs including communication differences, Autism, ADHD, and social‑emotional needs.

You will provide consistent, nurturing and structured support to a KS1 pupil, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and develop confidence. Working within the school's SEN provision, you'll collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams to ensure the child's needs are met throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

• 1:1 SEN support - delivering personalised strategies to help the child engage and succeed
• Implement routines, visual supports and behaviour plans
• Support communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs
• Adapt learning tasks to ensure accessibility and success
• Encourage independence, resilience and positive relationships
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
• Provide feedback and observations to contribute to progress reviews

What We're Looking For

• Experience supporting children with special educational needs, ideally in KS1
• Confidence working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, or communication needs
• Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practice
• Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach
• Ability to build trusting relationships with children
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
