Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Portsmouth is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join its welcoming team. You will support pupils with mild to moderate additional learning needs to access the curriculum and stay engaged in lessons.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, working with class teachers and the SENCo to build confidence, independence and positive relationships. DBS Update Service is required or applications initiated.

Qualifications

• A valid DBS certificate on the Update Service is required, or you must be willing to apply for one.
• The ideal candidate will have experience working with children or young people, although previous school-based or SEN experience is not essential.
• Experience from backgrounds such as youth work, childcare, mentoring, coaching, care or support work can be highly transferable.
• Most importantly, you will be patient, approachable, proactive and confident communicating with both students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils understand tasks, stay engaged with lessons and develop greater independence.
• Support targeted interventions in areas such as literacy, numeracy, organisation, communication and confidence.
• Build positive relationships with students and provide encouragement when they find aspects of school challenging.
• Work closely with class teachers and SENCo to provide support within mainstream classes.
