Job summary

West House School in Birmingham is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Learning Support Assistant for a one-year fixed term contract to support a Year 1 pupil with an EHCP. The role entails 1:1, individual and small-group work under the Head of Pre-Prep and EYFS and in collaboration with the SENCO.

The successful candidate will hold a Level 3 SEN/TA/EYFS qualification, possess safeguarding training and evidence high-quality SEN delivery.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in SEN, Teaching Assistant Work and/or EYFS work
  • Current safeguarding training (within the last three years)
  • Educated to GCSE level including English and Maths at grade C or above
  • Proven record of high-quality delivery of SEN and Learning Support
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children with an EHCP
  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of the EYFS Statutory Framework
  • Experience of working with children with SEN
  • Competent ICT skills
  • Outstanding communication/interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • An ability to prioritise and carry out specific requests in a timely manner
  • Problem solving skills
  • A flexible attitude
  • A commitment to CPD
  • Humour, patience, stamina, loyalty and humility

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1 to 1 support, individual and group work to support a pupil as outlined in their EHCP
  • Support the wider department to enhance EHCP delivery
  • Implement strategies with the EYFS SENCO for routines, transitions, and behaviours
  • Build positive relationships with the child and family and value parental involvement
  • Keep observations and assessments, maintain accurate records
  • Liaise with outside agencies to ensure EHCP delivery
  • Deliver other EHCP or Learning Support tasks as directed
  • Provide assistance to other pupils as required
