Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with learning and care within designated classes. You will work under the class teacher, enabling a child-centred environment and assisting with management of the learning space.

Essential criteria include a Level 2 qualification or equivalent, and either 6 weeks of relevant experience or 12 months in a formal learning setting.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from an awarding body.
• Certificate or Diploma level; award level not acceptable.
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or through placement.
• Or at least 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety, child development, and safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Assist the class teacher to run the class effectively.
• Support pupils individually or in groups to aid learning.
• Supervise activities, manage the learning environment, and support ICT use.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies.
• Prepare materials and resources as directed by the teacher.
• Attend relevant in-service training and support colleagues.
