Job summary

Academics is recruiting for a dedicated SEN Alternative Provision Learning Mentor in Gloucester. You will support learners with SEN, including autism and other needs, delivering 1:1 or small-group mentoring to help them succeed within an alternative provision setting.

You will work 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday during term time, starting ASAP. The role involves collaborating with teachers and support staff to implement learning plans, manage behaviours, and prepare learners for progression in

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young adults with additional needs (SEN support, youth work, mental health roles).
  • Strong behaviour management skills; any restraint or positive handling training is advantageous.
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach, with a strong desire to support students with complex needs.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in special education, psychology, or therapy.
  • Clear DBS (or willingness to apply).

Responsibilities

  • Support learners with a variety of SEN, including autism, learning difficulties, and emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Work with a range of learners on a 1:1 basis, within a group setting, and within a range of Alternative Provision roles.
  • Work closely with learners and staff to manage and reduce challenging behaviours, and help build coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support workers, and other professionals to deliver tailored learning support.
  • Gain practical experience working in a specialist SEN environment, preparing for a future career in SEN education or related fields.

SEN Alternative Provision Learning Mentor

Do you have experience working within education or alternative provision supporting learners who may require additional support to succeed? Do you have hands on classroom experience? Are you passionate about seeing learners thrive?

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEN Alternative Provision Learning Mentor to join an alternative provision setting in Gloucester. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to build a rewarding career in education while making a difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

As an SEN Alternative Provision Learning Mentor, you will work closely with experienced support staff to provide tailored 1-1 or group mentoring support to learners who require additional academic, emotional or behavioural support. You will support the implementation of strategic learning plans and play an important role in creating a safe and engaging environment where every learner has the opportunity to thrive.

Key Role Details:
  • Start date: ASAP - Term time only
  • Location: Gloucester based Alternative Provision
  • Salary: £80 - £95 per day (Depending on Experience)
