Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an experienced SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil at a welcoming primary school in Rushden from September 2026. This full-time role offers long-term/permanent opportunities with competitive pay based on experience.

You will help with academic, social, and emotional development, provide personalised learning interventions, and collaborate closely with teachers and the SENCO to ensure consistent progress and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Must have a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.
• Patient, caring, empathetic and understanding.
• Ability to build a strong, trusting relationship with a child.
• Calm and consistent approach.
• Confident supporting a child on a 1:1 basis.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with additional needs.
• Support the pupil's academic, social and emotional development.
• Assist the class teacher with personalised learning activities and interventions.
• Help the pupil remain focused and engaged during lessons.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Encourage independence, confidence and self-esteem.
• Support communication and social skills development.
• Help the pupil access the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning.
• Provide reassurance and consistency throughout the school day.
• Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider staff.
• Support the pupil during lessons, transitions, breaktimes and other areas as required.
