Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist post-16 construction setting in Chorley, supporting learners aged 16+ to build skills, confidence and independence for adulthood.

You will work one-to-one or in small groups with pupils who have SEMH needs, using calm, patient approach, clear boundaries, and effective communication to promote engagement and progress across classroom and practical construction activities.

Qualifications

• Calm, patient, consistent and approachable approach.
• Ability to connect with learners aged 16+ and build rapport.
• Experience with SEMH or challenging behaviour is desirable.
• Ability to maintain clear boundaries and promote independence.
• Experience in education, youth work, care, or construction-related roles is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to learners aged 16+.
• Support learners with SEMH needs to engage positively with education and vocational training.
• Build trusting professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and effective communication.
• Support learners during classroom-based learning and practical construction activities.
• Help learners develop confidence, independence and workplace-ready behaviours.
• Promote attendance, engagement and participation in learning.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams where appropriate.
