Job summary

Connex Education Partnership is seeking a resilient SEMH Support Worker to provide 1:1 and small-group support in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, helping pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges. The role welcomes backgrounds in education, youth work or mentoring.

You will build trusting relationships, support emotional regulation, and work with teachers to create a calm, safe learning environment. Flexible supply opportunities are available across a range of schools.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • Experience working with vulnerable young people.
  • A background in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching or support work with children or young people.
  • Experience supporting challenging behaviour or emotional regulation.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The resilience and empathy needed to support pupils who may find education challenging.
  • Experience within an educational setting is desirable, but relevant experience outside of education is also highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing.
  • Helping pupils manage challenging behaviour and difficult situations.
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and school routines.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and resilience.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies.
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and specialist staff.
  • Following individual support and behaviour plans.
  • Creating a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.
