Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in Market Weighton. The role involves one-to-one and small group work, helping students manage emotions and engage with learning.

The ideal candidate will have SEMH experience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding. DBS check is required or a willingness to apply, with a flexible day-to-day/long-term arrangement.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs is desirable.
• Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour is advantageous.
• A relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or a related field is beneficial but not essential.
• Strong understanding of SEMH needs and positive behaviour management strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support students in managing their emotions and developing positive behaviour strategies.
• Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils to promote their wellbeing and engagement.
• Assist teachers in delivering inclusive and engaging learning activities.
• Support pupils according to their individual learning and behaviour support plans.
• Encourage the development of social skills, resilience, confidence, and independence.
• Help manage challenging behaviour using positive and appropriate strategies.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and relevant support staff.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.
