GSL Education Hull Branch is actively recruiting SEMH Support Assistants to work in schools across Hull, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and build confidence and skills to succeed.

You will collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and support staff to provide tailored help for students facing social, emotional, behavioural or mental health challenges, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children/young people with SEMH or related needs is desirable.
  • Experience in schools, youth work, care, or similar settings is advantageous.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or Youth Work are desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote engagement with learning.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and targeted interventions.
  • Support students in line with individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Help manage challenging situations using positive and appropriate strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, providing feedback to relevant staff.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Are you a compassionate, patient, and resilient individual with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education Hull Branch are seeking dedicated SEMH Support Assistants to work in schools across Hull, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.

The successful SEMH Support Assistant will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and other support staff to provide tailored support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges. You will play an important role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships, engage with learning, and build greater independence.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Support Assistant:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and social skills.

Requirements of an SEMH Support Assistant:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience working in a school, youth work, care, or similar setting is advantageous.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or Youth Work are desirable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply
