Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking a dedicated SEMH Support Assistant to work with pupils requiring additional social, emotional, and mental health support in Burnley.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support to develop emotional regulation, confidence and engagement in learning. The role involves building positive relationships, implementing behaviour plans and working with the SENCO and pastoral team.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Calm, empathetic and patient approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and follow school policies.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and support plans.
  • Collaborate with SENCO, pastoral team, parents and external agencies.
