Job summary

Milk Education are working in partnership with an 11-18 secondary school to recruit a SEMH Support Assistant to support pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs within a mainstream setting.

You will help students regulate emotions and access learning through personalised activities, working alongside teachers and pastoral staff in a calm, supportive environment. The role requires resilience, empathy and patience, with a proactive approach to teamwork and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a school, alternative provision or youth work setting is desirable.
  • Solid numeracy and literacy skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • A calm, resilient and empathetic approach with positive attitude in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement, confidence and resilience.
  • Support students to regulate emotions and use positive behaviour strategies.
  • Work with teachers and pastoral staff to deliver personalised learning activities and adapt resources.
  • Promote a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment where every student feels respected.
