Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with behavioural and social needs in Chatham. Start date September 2026. This role requires patience, resilience, and a calm approach to support inclusion and learning access.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to create a nurturing environment, monitor progress, and adapt activities to help the pupil thrive academically and socially.

SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)

Location: Chatham (limited public transport access)

Start Date: September 2026

Hours: Full time| Term-time only

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil who requires additional help with behaviour regulation and developing positive social interactions with peers.

This rewarding role involves working closely with the class teacher and SENCo to create a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment that enables the pupil to thrive both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's individual needs
  • Implement behaviour strategies and support emotional regulation
  • Encourage and facilitate positive peer interactions and social development
  • Adapt learning activities to ensure engagement and accessibility
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff and parents where appropriate

  • Have experience working with children with SEN, particularly behavioural and social needs
  • Be patient, resilient, and empathetic
  • Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
