Job summary

New Meaning Training seeks an SEMH Lead to provide specialist support for learners with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. You will lead practice, work directly with learners and guide colleagues across the centre to ensure timely, effective support.

You will champion trauma-informed approaches, safeguarding processes and collaboration with tutors, LSAs and external partners to improve outcomes for young people aged 16–25.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years’ experience supporting young people with complex SEMH needs.
• Experience mentoring or supporting a team within education, pastoral support, youth work, local authority or post-16 settings.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional conduct policies; DBS checks as standard.
• Certified training in trauma-informed practice and applying approaches in real settings.
• Ability to build genuine rapport with young people and establish trust, consistency and respect.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners with complex SEMH needs.
• Lead the implementation of trauma-informed approaches across teams.
• Deliver targeted 1:1 mentoring and support sessions.
• Provide specialist advice, guidance and practical support to tutors, LSAs and colleagues.
• Support learners to develop emotional resilience, self-regulation and engagement in learning.
• Assess SEMH needs and contribute to support planning and intervention strategies.
• Collaborate with EHCPs, Safeguarding Manager and external agencies for positive outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and monitor intervention impact.
