Job summary

A supportive SEMH-focused school in Wellingborough is recruiting SEMH Practitioners/Mentors to support children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is a full-time role starting ASAP, with safeguarding at its core.

You will provide targeted behaviour and emotional support, help pupils access learning, and build resilience through mentoring and trauma-informed approaches. Collaboration with staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SEMH or behavioural needs in schools or youth settings.
  • Understanding of behaviour support strategies and their impact on learning.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
  • Strong communication and professional relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Training such as Youth Work, Childcare, Behaviour Support, Team Teach, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted behaviour and emotional support to pupils with SEMH needs, in and out of the classroom.
  • Support pupils to access learning by helping them manage behaviour, emotions and responses to challenging situations.
  • Use trauma-informed strategies to promote positive behaviour, engagement and self-regulation.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils through mentoring and guidance.
  • Collaborate with teaching and pastoral teams to implement behaviour plans and interventions.
