Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistants to work across Wirral and surrounding areas. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEND, helping them engage and progress in learning.

The role involves supporting pupils with SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD and other needs, assisting teachers with inclusive and differentiated activities, while upholding safeguarding and maintaining pupil records. A DBS and safeguarding commitment are essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with children or vulnerable groups.
• Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

SEMH & SEN Teaching Assistants Required - Wirral

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Teaching Assistants to work within SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provisions, SEN schools, and specialist educational settings across the Wirral and surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning. We are seeking candidates who can build positive relationships, promote engagement, and support pupils to achieve both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Support students with SEMH needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, learning difficulties, and other additional needs.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated learning activities.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and promote positive behaviour throughout the school day.
• Support pupils' social, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
• Build positive and trusting relationships that encourage pupil engagement and achievement.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and resilience within the classroom and wider school environment.
• Support pupils during lessons, interventions, breaktimes, and enrichment activities where required.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil support plans when necessary.
• Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
• Experience in roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker, Care Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Residential Support Worker, Sports Coach, or similar.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
• A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
• A resilient and proactive attitude when supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or moderate learning difficulties.
• Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, Counselling, or a related field.
• Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management training.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.
• Previous experience working within SEN schools, alternative provisions, or specialist educational settings.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
