Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting a SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor in Trafford to support secondary students with SEMH, ASC and related needs. The role is full-time and term-time only, starting immediately, with a focus on re-engagement, emotional regulation and tailored learning interventions.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, building trust with vulnerable students, and collaborating with teachers and SEN teams to help students progress and thrive in a nurturing school environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or behavioural needs.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting challenging behaviour.
  • Strong behaviour management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships with vulnerable young people.

Responsibilities

  • Support secondary-aged students 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students.
  • Implement behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
  • Support students inside and outside the classroom to overcome barriers.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, communication, independence and coping skills.
  • Assist teaching staff with tailored learning activities and interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external agencies.
  • Monitor and record academic, behavioural and pastoral progress.
  • Create a safe, inclusive environment where students can thrive.

SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor - Trafford

Full-Time | Term Time Only | Immediate Start Available

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor to join a specialist secondary SEMH provision in the Trafford area. This rewarding full-time opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to education due to a range of additional needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), trauma-related needs, attachment difficulties, anxiety, and challenging behaviour.

The school provides a nurturing and structured environment where students are supported to develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive pathways for future success. As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning and achieve their potential.

The Role

As a SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor, you will:

  • Support secondary-aged students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Build positive, consistent, and professional relationships with young people.
  • Implement behaviour support and de-escalation strategies to promote engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Support students both inside and outside of the classroom to overcome social, emotional, and behavioural barriers.
  • Encourage the development of emotional regulation, communication, independence, and coping skills.
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and external agencies to support individual student plans.
  • Monitor and record academic, behavioural, and pastoral progress.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive.
The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, trauma, or behavioural needs.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting challenging behaviour.
  • Strong behaviour management and conflict resolution skills.
  • The ability to build trust and positive relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in education, youth work, support work, coaching, residential care, mentoring, or similar sectors.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
