Job summary

HS2 Ltd. is seeking a Quality Assurance professional based in Birmingham to drive compliance across major civil works within the BBV JV. You will support audits, NCR handling, readiness reviews and the progressive handover of works, ensuring documentation aligns with UK standards and BBV processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience of Major Civil Engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of UK and International Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • Quality subject matter expertise with proven track record.
  • Formal qualification in Quality Management or Civil Engineering.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor training preferred.
  • CQI member or working towards membership.
  • Lean and Six Sigma understanding.
  • Ability to challenge senior management and drive improvements.
  • Proficient with MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Apply BBV Golden Rules and promote health and safety on site or in the office.
  • Support Quality Assurance & Quality Control processes in sublot.
  • Monitor IPTAN Way conformity through audits and surveillances.
  • Participate in bidder scoring during procurement.
  • Engage with subcontractors to review Quality Plans and BBV tools.
  • Audit Supply Chain for assurance process compliance.
  • Participate in Readiness Review and Site Progress Meetings.
  • Manage ITP process review and ensure completeness.
  • Review ITPs for compliance with requirements.
  • Maintain ITP Schedule and monthly issuance to HS2.
  • Support Certification Engineers in handover and assurance.
  • Monitor Quality Records packs and closure of records.
  • Review MARs for clarity and evidence attachment.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity
Location

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Accountabilities
  • Apply BBV Golden Rules and be proactive in term of Health and Safety when visiting site or at the office.
  • Support the implementation of the Quality Assurance & Quality Control Processes in the sublot.
  • Monitor compliance with the IPTAN Way (BBV Integrated Management System) via internal audits and surveillances.
  • Participate in the scoring of bidders during the procurement process.
  • Engage with subcontractors at early stage to review their Quality Plans and provide training and assistance with BBV Quality tools and processes.
  • Perform external audits of the Supply Chain to review their assurance process.
  • Participate in Readiness Review and Site Progress Meetings.
  • Responsible for the management of the ITP process, including reviewing ITP’s format and content for completeness.
  • Review all ITPs to ensure that they are in compliance with the relevant requirements.
  • In case a standard / routewide ITP is used, ensure it meets the particular specifications of the works as stipulated by the Design. If not, discuss with the Project/Section manager the needs for a specific ITP to be produced.
  • Ensure that an ITP Schedule is maintained and issued to HS2 on a monthly basis, in which all the activities requiring an ITP are clearly identified and planned.
  • Support the Certification Engineers in the progressive handover and assurance processes, including the review of Quality Record Packs (QRP) and Single Assurance Packs (SAP) of completed activities.
  • Monitor the production of site records in the Quality Digital Tool and support the closure of records to facilitate the progressive handover and assurance processes.
  • Support the Delivery Teams in the review of Material Acceptance Records (MAR) to ensure that the information provided is clear and that all supporting evidence is attached properly to facilitate Designers’ review and acceptance.
  • Responsible for the management of the NCR process, including reviewing NCR’s format and content for completeness.
  • Support all parties throughout the NCR process, including the review and acceptance process with HS2 if required.
  • Support the progression and closure of NCRs to achieve the project Line of Sight objectives.
  • Review all NCRs to ensure their compliance to BBV NCR process, and that all required information is well defined and documented.
Qualifications
  • Experience of Major Civil Engineering projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of working to UK and International Standards, and industry Codes of Practice.
  • Quality subject matter expertise and proven track record in Quality Management.
  • A formal qualification in Quality Management or Civil Engineering, e.g. Bachelor or Master’s Degree.
  • Preferably trained ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and/or Internal Auditor.
  • Either a CQI Member or working towards membership.
  • Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Confident in working with Senior Management and able to challenge existing ways of working to support business improvement.
  • Competent user of modern office computer systems e.g. Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
  • Driving Licence.
