Secondary SEMH Teacher - Basildon

Location: Basildon, Essex

TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary SEMH Teacher to work full-time within a specialist education setting in Basildon. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and resilient teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The successful candidate will be working with secondary-aged pupils who may have a range of additional needs and barriers to learning. You will play an important role in providing a structured, supportive and engaging learning environment that enables pupils to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

The Role

As a Secondary SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that are adapted to meet the individual needs and abilities of your pupils.

You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, maintain clear boundaries and use effective behaviour-management strategies to create a safe and productive classroom environment.

You will work closely with teaching assistants, SEND professionals and the wider school team to ensure that each pupil receives the appropriate level of support.

The Successful Secondary SEMH Teacher Will:
  • Have QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching experience
  • Have experience working within a secondary school, SEND provision, PRU or alternative provision
  • Ideally have previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour-management skills
  • Be confident working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Be patient, resilient, adaptable and consistent
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • Have a genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential
