Job summary

Prospero Teaching is hiring Secondary and Post-16 Teaching Assistants for a specialist secondary and sixth form school in Bury, Greater Manchester. You will support pupils aged 11-19 with complex needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and physical/sensory disabilities.

Your role includes one-to-one and small group support, delivering personalised learning programmes, helping pupils access the curriculum, and developing independence and life skills.

• A relevant qualification in support, care, or education is desirable but not essential

Responsibilities

Area: Bury, Greater Manchester
Start Date: Monday 5th October 2026 or ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £525-£700 per week (Dependent on experience and responsibilities)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant Role and Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils across secondary and post-16 classes.
• Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes and ensuring pupils can access the curriculum effectively.
• Support the development of independence, life skills, and social engagement.

• Work closely with the school team, families, and external agencies to ensure a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant - What We're Looking For:

• Experience working with young people with SEND, ideally in a school, residential, or community setting. A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to managing behaviour
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A commitment to helping pupils achieve independence and life success.
• A relevant qualification in support, care, or education is desirable but not essential

Secondary & Post-16 Teaching Assistant - To Be Eligible You Must:

• Hold the Right to Work in the UK
• Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
• Be able to provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
