Role: Second in Department in Physics and Electronics (an ability to teach another A level subject would be welcomed, but is not compulsory). Contract type: Permanent. Salary: NSP 1 £32,178 - NSP 9 £49,725 per annum plus Responsibility allowance 1 (£2,216). Reporting to: Head of Physics and Electronics. Start date: 5 January 2026.

The Role

As a teacher and second in department at our sixth form college, you will play a key role in delivering engaging and challenging lessons that inspire academic excellence and independent thinking. You will support students aged 16-19 through their A level studies, helping them achieve their full potential. Collaboration with colleagues to develop innovative teaching strategies and tailored support is essential, as well as working with the Head of Department to drive the success of students. This role also involves contributing to the wider college community through enrichment activities and academic mentoring. What we are looking for

Sir John Deane's seeks to appoint an enthusiastic teacher and aspiring middle leader to contribute to the work of this thriving department. Experience in the subject is essential, as well as in having a strong academic background in Physics and Electronics. We are looking for someone who loves to teach and who has a passion for all aspects of the subject. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach across the A Level Physics programme. An ability to teach another A level subject (for example: Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics or Chemistry) would be welcomed, but this is not a pre-requisite for the successful applicant.
