Job summary

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Second Chef to support our waterfront catering venue. You will work with the Head Chef to prepare, cook, and serve meals for the public, functions, and events, and take responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.

You will manage day-to-day kitchen operations, supervise staff, ensure hygiene and food safety, handle stock control, and contribute to menu development and marketing content.

Qualifications

• Essential Level 3 Catering / Food Safety qualification.
• Experience in high-volume catering and event functions.
• Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety legislation.
• Ability to supervise and motivate a team.
• Good ICT skills and experience with stock control.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day running of the kitchen and supervise staff.
• Prepare, cook, and serve meals in line with approved menus and portion guidelines.
• Maintain hygiene and food safety standards, including temperature checks and accurate record-keeping.
• Organise stock ordering, deliveries, and rotation of supplies for the kitchen area.
• Assist with menu development and marketing content for catering services.
