An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Swansea LPMHSS for a High intensity Psychological therapist to join our expanding team of Mental health professionals.

The candidate will be expected to deliver high intensity psychological therapy as designated by Matrics Cymru and within the scope of the work with service users, who may have moderate to severe and enduring mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be expected to deliver high intensity psychological therapy as designated by Matrics Cymru and within the scope of the work with service users, who may have moderate to severe and enduring mental health problems. Delivering evidence-based interventions developed from psychological theory and practice ie standardised psychological therapies (CBT IPT etc) delivered to protocol.

You will work closely with other members of the team to ensure appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are utilised to support good transitions as part of a stepped/matched care approach. Act in ways, which support the values of recovery-focused care, which place the service user and their needs at the centre of care.

Informal visits are encouraged prior to interview for those shortlisted candidates.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Person specification

Qualification/knowledge

  • To have completed one year of recognised full-time (or equivalent part-time) psychotherapy or counselling training, leading to a qualification, certification or accreditation recognised by a relevant professional or regulatory body e.g. UKCP, BABCP, BACP.
  • To be a member of a relevant professional or regulatory body, and continue to fulfil any of its accreditation or membership criteria.
  • To have gained the supervised therapy experience required by the regulatory or professional body encompassing assessment, formulation, engagement, developing the therapeutic relationship, using relevant therapeutic interventions, working collaboratively with clients, and working to end therapy.
  • Mental Health professional background
  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. Psychology.
  • Post-qualification training in high intensity interventions for condition-specific, evidence-based psychological therapy delivery.

Experiences

  • To demonstrate experience of psychological therapy services within the NHS or in the private or voluntary sectors
  • On-going supervision of therapeutic work.
  • Experience in working in a relevant NHS context and working well with teams.
  • Experience of working with brief, focused counselling interventions and/or evidence based psychological interventions under appropriate supervision.

Aptitudes and Abilities

  • Up to date knowledge of the therapeutic approach to be practised.
  • Confirmed competencies in working constructively with clients and with colleagues.
  • Able to attend to personal issues evoked in therapeutic work and to use them constructively
  • Skills in use of audit, evaluation and outcome measures.
  • Ability to speak Welsh/other languages and willingness to use this/these where relevant in the work environment.
