Job summary

Deer Park School in Southampton invites applications for a Science Technician to support our science department with safe, engaging practical lessons. You will prepare equipment, organise activities, and assist staff during experiments to help students learn effectively.

This term-time only role is 35 hours per week, with an actual annual salary of £20,635.10 (£26,017 full-time equivalent). A background in science or lab experience and strong organisation are desirable traits.

Qualifications

• GCSE in Science is required; A-Level in Science preferred.
• Good ICT skills and knowledge.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to handle a wide range of tasks and assist in other areas of the school as needed.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy.
• Patience, tact and diplomacy.
• Background in Science or prior laboratory experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment for science experiments, demonstrations, and practical lessons.
• Organise and coordinate practical activities, ensuring lessons run smoothly.
• Support teaching and learning by assisting staff during practical sessions.
• Maintain, manage, and monitor science equipment and resources, ensuring they are safe, well-organised, and readily available for use.
