We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, highly organised, and experienced Science technician to join our friendly and supportive Science Department. The successful candidate will be capable of inspiring pupils through their passion for Science, driving practical teaching and learning, and demonstrating a strong desire to make a difference to pupil achievement. As Washwood Heath Academy is an All Through Academy, there is potential to support practical curriculum in Key Stage 3, 4, and 5, and collaborate with colleagues in the Primary phase to develop pupils' practical skills from Key Stages 1 and 2.

About Washwood Heath Academy

Washwood Heath Academy is a relatively new All Through Academy (Primary, Secondary, and Sixth Form) located in East Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established Science team and contribute to a faculty committed to providing a first-class education for all learners. We deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum where Science teachers and technicians are the experts, conveying their knowledge and expertise to pupils. We believe all pupils are entitled to learn about ‘The best, which has been thought and said’ (Matthew Arnold).

Our school is centrally located, with enthusiastic pupils, dedicated staff, and a friendly, family-like atmosphere that attracts parents. Many staff members are long-term employees. We are part of the Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust, a community of local schools, providing opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and collaborative environment.

We Offer
  • A collaborative and inclusive culture with opportunities for upskilling and professional development, both within your school and across the Trust.
  • Structured CPD via the National College online platform and apprenticeships such as Level 7 Senior Leaders Masters, with regular twilight sessions.
  • Career pathways and support through our Professional Growth and Performance (PPG) process.
  • A wellbeing culture, including paid and unpaid leave for life events, access to a Wellbeing Champion, and participation in staff wellbeing surveys.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) including confidential counselling and wellbeing advice.
  • Supportive policies such as Life Leave, Wellbeing, Career Break, and Family Friendly policies.
  • Access to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • A comprehensive rewards package including Long Service Awards, Employee Referral Scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme, and support for eye-sight tests.
  • Participation in Trust-wide groups on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, Wellbeing, Menopause, and Neurodiversity.
  • Onsite parking at all schools.
Candidate Requirements

This post is suitable for any Scientist holding a minimum of a UK Level 3 Science Qualification (or equivalent) seeking a new challenge.
