Science Technician - Secondary School

Location: Birmingham

Start Date: September 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time (Term Time Only)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Monarch Education is working with a secondary school in Birmingham to recruit a reliable and experienced Science Technician to join their team from September 2025. This is a full-time position, supporting the school's science department in delivering high-quality practical lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

This role would suit someone with a strong science background, good organisational skills, and previous experience working in a school laboratory setting.

Job Description

As a Science Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff to support the delivery of engaging and safe science lessons. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for practical experiments in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • Maintaining and organising laboratory equipment, ensuring that all materials are stored correctly and safely.
  • Supporting teaching staff during practical lessons and demonstrations where required.
  • Ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed in line with school policies and risk assessments.
  • Assisting in the preparation and ordering of stock and materials.
  • Managing chemical storage, disposal, and inventory in accordance with COSHH regulations.
  • Keeping prep rooms and laboratories clean, organised, and fully stocked.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school or laboratory environment is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of science subjects and lab safety, including COSHH and general risk assessments.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively across multiple tasks.
  • Confidence in handling chemicals, lab equipment, and assisting with practical demonstrations.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude to work, with the ability to support both staff and students.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
