Job summary

Robert Fitzroy Academy is seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee the day-to-day management, maintenance, security and cleanliness of the school buildings and grounds. You will lead contractors, supervise premises staff and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

The role requires strong organisational skills, physical capability for manual tasks, and a proactive approach to keeping the site safe and welcoming for pupils and staff.

Qualifications

• Experienced in site management, ideally within a school or similar setting.
• Skilled in general maintenance, repairs and use of tools/equipment.
• Knowledgeable about health & safety, including CoSHH, manual handling, Legionella and asbestos regulations.
• Able to supervise staff and work effectively with contractors.
• Physically capable of carrying out the demands of the role, including lifting and manual tasks.
• Organised, proactive and able to prioritise workload in a busy environment.
• Committed to maintaining a safe, secure and positive environment for children and staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensure school buildings and grounds are clean, tidy and well maintained.
• Implement daily housekeeping and health & safety routines.
• Carry out minor repairs, maintenance and DIY tasks across the site.
• Monitor cleaning standards and supervise cleaning staff as required.
• Manage contractors and oversee small maintenance projects, including quotes and monitoring.
• Conduct regular checks and statutory compliance tasks (fire alarms, emergency lighting, water hygiene, asbestos, PAT testing).
• Maintain site safety during adverse weather conditions and ensure secure access.
• Monitor energy usage and record utilities readings.
• Provide porterage and set up rooms for events, handling deliveries efficiently.
