Job summary

Carrickfergus Grammar School is seeking a part-time Cook to join the catering team. The role involves preparing and cooking meals for students and staff, maintaining high hygiene standards, and assisting with menu planning and stock management.

You will work 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 2:30pm (6 hours daily) with an unpaid lunch break. Experience in catering and HACCP knowledge are essential, as is a willingness to train and develop in the role.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher
• Two years’ experience of food preparation and cooking within a catering establishment
• Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
• Willingness to undertake job related training

Responsibilities

• Skilled cooking activities connected with the full range of meals (assist with menu preparation, portion control, dietary meals, function catering)
• Assist with record keeping and hygiene controls
• Direct and/or shared supervision of other employees
• Operational control of service points including transported meals
• General admin tasks: meal planning, stock-taking, stores/fridges, deliveries
• General kitchen management in the absence of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor
• Training of staff and cash handling duties where appropriate
• General kitchen duties: washing up, setting up and clearing away equipment
• Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake
• Security of premises as required
• Duties delegated in connection with service provision
