Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Catering Assistant to support daily operations of the school catering unit under supervision. You will assist in food preparation, simple cooking, serving meals, maintaining dining areas and ensuring hygiene and safety standards.

The role requires teamwork, good communication, and a proactive approach to customer service for pupils and staff. Applicants should be prepared to undertake relevant training and adhere to school values and regulations.

Qualifications

• Willingness to undertake job related training.
• Effective communication skills to support team working, taking of instruction and engagement with customers.
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
• Effective organisational and planning skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Motivation towards providing excellent food and customer service for our children and young people.
• Experience of working in a customer service or catering role (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Basic preparation of food and beverages using appropriate equipment.
• Simple cooking, including reconstitution of prepared food.
• Organising and controlling food service points.
• Transferring and serving meals and snacks including transported meals.
• Assisting with the promotion of meals to pupils, parents and principal.
• Maintaining contact with central kitchen regarding service delivery.
• Preparing the dining area and setting tables and serving points.
• Cleaning the kitchen, servery and dining room, including equipment and floors.
• Recording temperatures for control purposes.
• Carrying out duties to comply with relevant legislation and codes of practice.
• Promoting and adhering to the school's values.
