Job summary

St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School in Wallsend invites applications for a reliable and flexible School Caretaker to join our site team. You will help maintain the premises and grounds to a high standard, carry out general repairs, cleaning and basic maintenance tasks, and support operations for assemblies and events.

The role requires a practical approach, good health and safety knowledge, and the ability to work with contractors.

Qualifications

• Essential: Practical skills to carry out general repairs and maintenance
• Essential: Good understanding of Health and Safety practices
• Essential: Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively
• Essential: Ability to prioritise tasks and manage conflicting demands
• Essential: Commitment to safeguarding in line with school policies
• Desirable: Experience with plumbing or carpentry, IT literacy, experience in a school environment

Responsibilities

• General site maintenance and repairs, both indoor and outdoor
• Cleaning, refilling consumables, painting and decorating, manual handling
• Locking up and securing the site, and opening when required
• Liaising with contractors and external maintenance staff
• Setting up and clearing rooms for assemblies, meetings and events
• Monitoring heating, lighting, water and other building services and reporting issues
• Maintaining records of maintenance and premises-related activities
• Assisting with gardening and seasonal maintenance
• Contributing to a safe environment for pupils, staff, visitors and contractors
